Eli Hecht

Legal Assistant

Eli joined the G & G team in 2026. His professional experience includes nonprofit administration, case management, and education. His greatest strength is creating and refining systems that work for people. He enjoys finding the sticking points in an organization’s processes, and the tweaks that will eliminate them.

Eli graduated from Dartmouth College, cum laude, with a degree in Cognitive Science in 2023. After graduation, he spent a year studying how people come up with possible actions in open-ended contexts. He’s interested in the factors that drive decision making and how this knowledge can help us make better choices in the future.

In 2024, he began working as an Administrator and Case Manager at Valley Court Diversion Programs, a restorative justice-based program that provided an alternative process to traditional criminal court. On the clerical side, he updated the organization’s tracking and payment systems, freeing up time for case managers to focus on their clients. As a Case Manager, he saw his role as a guide, explaining different options available and suggesting possible case plans rather than forcing a particular outcome. The process was collaborative and his clients were empowered to take responsibility for the choices that would best set them up for success.

Eli moved to Chicago at the end of 2025, drawn by its balance of big city energy and down-to-earth culture. He’s since worked variously as a recruitment coordinator, sound technician, and after school programming manager at a shelter. He likes to wear many hats and bring his creative energy to all of the work he does. After hours, you can often find him improvising on the upright bass at a jazz jam or puppet show.
